I remember making the pilgrimage to Mighty Quinn’s Bbq first location in the East Village soon after it opened with a ton of fanfare and love from the food critics. That’s what bbq lovers all across America do, make pilgrimages, but only in New York City do they do it by subway instead of by pick-up or beater. Well pilgrimage no more, because as previously mentioned Long Island City is getting it’s very own Mighty Quinn’s soon!
I spoke with Mike Dolan, who along with his wife Paula will be the owners of the new LIC branch. Both work in finance, he on Wall Street and she in real estate, and going forward Mike will focus solely on opening this restaurant and then three other Mighty Quinn’s elsewhere in Queens. Though the couple lives in Long Island, they chose LIC for their initial foray because of it’s current and future demographics, and the success here of other local NYC offshoots like Bareburger and Sweet Chick.
As for why they chose Mighty Quinn’s, the couple watched and enjoyed the food, atmosphere and frenzy of the aforementioned location in the East Village, where they lived when it opened in 2012. Plus they love BBQ in general. And because this will be their first experience in the restaurant industry, they wanted a solid partner with good brand equity to guide them through the process.
Mike doesn’t yet know where there LIC location will be. He’s kicked the tires on Vernon Boulevard but would be just as happy in the burgeoning Court Square or Queens Plaza area. Once the decision has been made, which should be soon, Mighty Quinn’s LIC should be up and running in about six months. Mm-mm, I can taste those burnt ends now…

Though it’s not scheduled to be completed until 2021, with so many units this will be a good tracker for the current temperature of the LIC sales market. Stay tuned…
