There will be a nude sunrise yoga class offered on the northern pier of Gantry Plaza State Park this summer. The class will begin on Thursday, June 13 and occur every Thursday until August 8. The start time for the initial class will be 5:24am and change slightly from week to week based on the sunrise. The instructor is Holly Beartush from the Yoga & Yogurt Studio in Bushwick and it is open to all, no advance registration necessary.
The class was formed in response to a survey conducted by the Hunters Point Community Parks Association soliciting programming recommendations for the summer. Based on this poll back in January there will be many additional exciting events and programs expected on the waterfront in 2019. These include a Mixed Martial Arts class for kids, concluding with a UFC Cage Match/Open Brawl in The Oval. Children must be 6+ to participate. Also on the agenda is a home butchering course and cookout at the picnic tables by Coffeed. Participants will start with ptarmigans on Memorial Day and conclude with a fully grown steer by Labor Day. Finally, mark your calendar’s on July 22 for the 1st Annual East River Open Swim, there will be games, races, and prizes for all! The people have spoken.
