MAN has been cooking with wood for over a million years. Beginning next week the people of Long Island City will be able to get pizza cooked on wood for the very first time when Piatto LIC opens on October 23. That’s right, pizza cooked on wood! In LIC!! Alla-buon’ora! In addition the dinner menu includes items such as charred octopus, fire-roasted prawns, cheese and charcuterie plates, and numerous salads. It will also be open for lunch every weekday and brunch on the weekends according to the manager. For those who never leave their apartments, may I inform you know that Piatto LIC is located on the corner of Center Boulevard and 50th Avenue with a full bar overlooking the skyline. The rest is for you and everyone else to discover.
//CRAIN’s is out with a story that Long Island City is at the top of the list of options that NYC included in its Amazon HQ2 proposal. The ‘bid’ submitted did not require any rezoning, with one possible small exception1, and numerous large and open commercial possibilities such as the Citi building and Tishman Speyer’s new office development in Queens Plaza were proffered. As we’ve stated before, the discount to Manhattan combined with the transportation options and lifestyle improvements makes LIC a commercial real estate nirvana. We’ll find out in a year…
//POLISHED Man Fundraiser tomorrow night, October 18 at Manducati’s Rustica from 7:30 to 9:30. Featuring jazz singer Nadia Ackerman & 41 Players and hosted by NFL veteran Tony Richardson, $50 a person includes selected food & drinks. Polished Man is a charity working to end violence against children here in the U.S.
//WHETHER it be Lionel Messi, Ronaldo, or Mia Hamm, every parent can still entertain the dream their child achieves megastar status. Or maybe your aspirations are a little more modest with the hope that soccer will be the ticket to the Ivy’s (and maybe they shave $10k off the tuition for, ahem …merit-based equivalency achievement blah-blah). This Sunday, October 22 you can defer reality a little longer by having your child participate in a free soccer clinic given by Hugo Guzman, the U14 head coach of the NYCFC, hosted by the Long Island City Soccer Club at the Queens West Field from Noon-1:15pm. All children between the ages of 7-12 can participate, they will just need a signed waiver and to take a drug test. Just kidding on the latter, but please contact Lajos Geenen at lajosgeenen@gmail.com for the former.
