IN tracing the footsteps of my forebears down south, such as William Faulkner and Tennessee Williams, I could not help but take note that there are a lot of roadside fireworks stands in every state below the Mason Dixon line. And just like an accountant after April 15, or a retailer after December 25th, they all close after July 4.
Similarly the news in LIC hits a lull every year post-July 4th. There are a few real estate transactions, a touch of crime and political jockeying, but otherwise I’ve missed little of significance in my wanderings.
Which is understandable, because as always the Macy’s fireworks were spectacular this year, and we were blessed with a perfect evening weather-wise. After which those who remained in town scattered to the beaches and mountains and foreign lands and other WFH locations that aren’t very WFH.
