Rockaway Brewing Company has expanded its operations in LIC. They have added a 5-barrel brewhouse to their existing 2-barrel one, which in tandem with a whole slew of new fermenters, will lead to a big increase to their current volume. Of equal importance, they now have a lot more space than their previously cramped environs, having pushed through the wall to the adjacent building. Their plan is to convert their original brewing facility into a tasting room. According to Ethan Long, one of Rockaway’s two co-founders, they have had an incredible turnout from people in the neighborhood. In addition, craft-brewery tours have brought groups to their location, as they make their way through nearby breweries. Hmm, might Queens become the Napa Valley of the 21st Century?
Ethan says they have also had a lot of success getting their beer into numerous well known restaurants and bars, such as NoMad, 11 Madison, and the Wythe Hotel, so the additional volume is much needed. But you don’t have to venture that far to get great beer such as this, because while Rockaway’s eventual plan is to open a much bigger plant in the Rockaways, they intend to keep their flagship here in Long Island City.
