According to a source, Shi restaurant will be issuing a press release tomorrow making the following claims:
The couple did not arrive at Shi until midnight.
The male member of the couple was drunk and causing problems inside the restaurant, including bothering other patrons.
Thus, the decision was made to throw him out of the bar, and apparently he left in a heated manner.
They have videotapes confirming their version of the story.
Hmm, in reviewing all the news, comments, and hyperbole emanating from this story, not to mention the initial muddled statements coming from Shi(further complicated by this one), I have no idea whose version is correct anymore, though my guess is it’s a melding of the two.
In any event, i am surprised that the two other supposed defendants names have not been released yet and/or nabbed. Plus, I hear the hate-crimes bias unit is going to drop the case.
So much for leaving LIC behind for a summer’s end vacation. Stay tuned for tomorrow…
Big Rav says
August 22, 2013 at 5:48 pmAs a very frequent patron of Shi and world traveler, the upcoming press release makes a lot more sense. Shi has the most racially & sexually oriented diverse crowd I have ever seen in the world.
The owner also goes out of his to ensure the patrons are pampered & enjoy the experience.
After reading the initial press, I was both bewildered & personally upset because I have only known & really appreciated Shi for just the opposite of what the press was insinuating.
Thank you LIC Talk for shedding some light on this unfortunate incident.

August 22, 2013 at 9:42 pmHi, I spoke to a friend who witnessed the event outside her window in 4705. She said that no one attempted to seek help from SHI and gain re-entry. I feel the news on PIX11 was unnecessarily negative. The point was to describe a hate crime, but they kept pointing a finger at SHI, who did nothing wrong. I eat there every week and they staff are amazing. They go out of their way and I have never, EVER had a bad experience. I think it’s totally unfair for the news to focus on SHI and report outside of SHI, even though SHI was no longer the subject of the newscast. And Big Rav is right. SHI does have the a very diverse crowd that spans not only it’s patrons, but it’s employees. So to point the finger at them is just plain wrong.

It is now the “tomorrow”.
Let’s see the videotapes so that we can put this to rest.
trial by internet says
August 23, 2013 at 2:49 pmI agree it would be interesting to see the tapes, if we were doing a trial by internet, but we wouldn’t be seeing what went on inside the rest.
As well, the police not following up on this as a hate-crime seems to lend credibility to at least some moderate version of the story.
In any case trial-by-internet seems as pointless as the rush towards judgement, I guess it makes all feel better to think the world is black and white when our own worlds are so gray.

August 23, 2013 at 5:55 pmWould love to see video from inside Shi, altho this probably does not exists.
EMS should have marked on their Call Sheet if there was AOB [alcohol on breath].
Parties involved could subpoena call sheet
