HAPPY New Year Long Island City! Time to break those resolutions, at least where dieting is concerned. The Oasis Cafe is coming to 49th Avenue in Hunters Point, filling a newly created retail space adjacent to Vernon Grille and across from Casa Enrique.
This will be the fifth location for this mini-chain, with a current pair in Queens and pair in Manhattan. What can you get at The Oasis Cafe? Desserts, Coffee, Food, Cocktails and Brunch according to the menu online. Given that the tagline is ‘Baked from Scratch,’ I’d surmise that the first category is their go-to offering, and as readers know, we like our pastries here at LICtalk.
//WITH the New Year comes congestion pricing. Despite being a big beneficiary of the previously free (and easy) passage over the Queensboro Bridge, I’m not overly annoyed. Maybe that’s because we also have excellent subway access here in LIC. Anyway, here are some important aspects highly relevant to those in LIC. First, there is no fee triggered on the QB Bridge if you take the 61st or 62nd Street exit and head uptown or onto the FDR from there. BUT, if you come back to LIC on the QB Bridge you will trigger the daily fee at all entry points, despite only going 1-3 blocks into the zone. If you take the Midtown Tunnel, you will automatically trigger the daily congestion fee, but you will also get a $1.50 rebate, and a $3 rebate if you continue through to a NJ Tunnel. Feel better?
