Just in time for the holidays comes a heartwarming story from a small paper upstate. It tells of a mother and daughter who leave painted rocks, some with inspirational messages, others with holiday and seasonal themes, in the neighborhoods up there.
And here in Long Island City! In fact, our town seems to be the major ‘recipient’ of these rocks as well as the origin, as the website linked to them is called LICrocks.com
According to the article, the idea was conceived by the pair last winter, and the biggest drop occurred here on Easter with 150 rocks. The mother-daughter team wish to remain anonymous, as the mystique is part of the fun. The only clues shared in the story is they live in Long Island City and the daughter is in elementary school.1 Also in looking at the LIC Rocks website they seem to be artistically inclined, because they’re both really pretty and very clever. I would go so far as to say that this is the biggest local art happening since Banksy came to Long Island City.
Who knew?!? Well not me, but that doesn’t mean others here haven’t been touched. If so, please tell us your experience finding LIC Rocks.
