PLOT E in Hunters Point South, step up to the plate. You’re the latest debutante to be presented for gawking at by the LIC community. Oohs and ahhs and a little poking and prodding before a tall steel tower is erected for eternity on your vacant tract.
According to the LIC Post, the city has announced they are ready to develop the next, and second to last, lot along the waterfront. The first step is called a ‘visioning process’ whereby locals put forward their recommendations for the site. Which outside of a housing shortage being the most pressing need currently and the 60% affordable mandate for any housing built on this site, leaves how much wriggle room?
Good question Editor, which begs another good question: why wouldn’t the city just complete the job and develop it in tandem with the adjacent (and final) Plot D? Maybe they are, but if so, will they still put in a playing field as alluded to previously and hinted at in Councilwoman Julie Won’s statement regarding the visioning process? My guess is more housing trumps playing in 2024, but I would love to be proven wrong…

February 26, 2024 at 2:09 pmWell we don’t have a housing crisis, we have an immigration crisis. It is physically impossible to build housing at a rate needed to support both legal and illegal immigration by the many millions a year. You can’t do it. Immigration of all kinds needs to be zero for at least a decade to allow things time to stabilize. But yeah, that’s not happening.

February 28, 2024 at 8:41 pmMore housing. Less safety in the neighborhood / or more shelters and less money for infrastructure. I grew up in queens and let me tell you, we’re all sitting on some land over here it’s true, but hear nothing as to the grounds and water table therein.
Build safe structures to hold artists, middle class and working classes.
Do so by providing safe land and create structures that can withstand the elements, time weather and population.
While most lost aight of these things I’ll wave to them from their waterfront penthouses down here.

March 25, 2024 at 1:39 pmHow about covering over the LIRR terminus with a roof and developing it into an athletics track, soccer turf etc. Get TFF to assist in exchange for all the development they’ve been granted access to along the water.
