One of the greatest movies ever, The Wicker Man, takes place on a remote Scottish Isle filled with colorful people and farms. The only things the locale has in common with LIC, are that it’s on the water and cloistered. Otherwise, to the best of my knowledge, we don’t adhere to the following practices dramatized in the movie: couples copulating openly in the fields, children being taught in school of the phallic importance of the maypole, or toads being placed in the mouth to cure whooping cough. Most relevantly, we don’t practice human sacrifice, or at least I thought we didn’t until I stumbled upon the creation pictured above at the north end of Gantry Park.
Check out the movie(the 1973 version only) if you want to know exactly what I mean. You won’t be disappointed. More relevant to LIC, is the question: when is that northern stretch of Gantry finally going to be opened? While we’re on it, when is the southern stretch going to be opened? Both seem to be 99.9% complete and awaiting a time slot where all the politicians are available to take credit for it with an opening ceremony/photo-op. Oh well, we won’t sweat the small stuff, and there’s way, way too much other LIC news to peruse. In fact, since it’s the weekend, we’ll start with the fun stories first, and leave all the depressing real estate articles for last. Enjoy!

July 26, 2013 at 1:51 pmI think the reason they haven’t opened up the last piece of Gantry Park is because the northern end of Center Boulevard is a massive construction zone and they don’t want people traipsing through there. The crane on the last tower is being removed this weekend, and I think they are expecting the final building to be completed by December.

July 26, 2013 at 9:23 pmI’ve been wondering what that thing in Gantry was myself, every time I run by it. I can’t tell if it’s meant to stay there temporarily or permanently.

July 27, 2013 at 9:06 amInstead of a fancy new lighting system, how about bringing the old hammocks back to Gantry Park. They’ve been missing for about a month now.
