As the lengthy travails of Josh Bowen and Nick Giovanniello demonstrate, there’s nothing more frustrating than being 99% of the way there but needing final sign-off to open your restaurant in Long Island City. Nothing that is, but trying to open a library in Long Island City. This month we have heard a pair of contrasting anecdotes confirming/questioning whether the library will be ready to open by its last reported deadline of Summer 2019. The doubter, who’s on the inside (sorta), hinted that the library may have temporarily run out of funds and thus construction ceased. The believer, said they heard the city has already started looking at staffing for Hunters Point Library. Will it happen? Hmm, I don’t rightly reckon, but I do know that summer runs from June 21 to September 23, …this year anyway.
