I’m getting a late start on publishing this week. After 3-day weekends, especially beautiful ones, I usually need an extra day to recover. What’s transpired in that time? I was tipped off by a local mom, about a little sign up on 51st Ave between Vernon and 5th Street announcing “51st Bakery & Cafe.” If done correctly, it’s definitely something we could use in this neighborhood. The name on the sign is “Jonathan Stirling” and if anyone knows any more about it, please pass on the info to us at editor@lictalk.com. By the looks of it, we’re probably talking about a 2014 opening.
Now onto Halloween events:
LIC School of Ballet is hosting a party on Sunday Oct. 27th from 1-4pm, $10 per family and activity tickets are $1 each. The school is located at 44-02 23rd St. 2nd flr.
Pets on Parade – Saturday Oct. 19th, 11am to Noon at the LIC Flea. Primp, fluff, dress and decorate your hounds, kitties, hamsters, iguanas etc. For more information contact jenny@licdogwalk.com
Finally, save the date for one of the biggest events on the LIC Social Calendar: The Kids Halloween Parade down Vernon Blvd. It will be on Thursday Oct. 31st, and meeting up on the plaza at Gantry State Park at 4:45pm. For those not acquainted with this gala, it’s the first step on the road to becoming a debutante. So spare no expense on primping, fluffing, dressing, and decorating your little one. On a side note, outside of construction, there is no better way to actually visualize the astounding growth in the LIC community than at this event. Ooh, now that’s scary!

October 16, 2013 at 4:26 pmThe police and city are pouring so many resources into the hunt for this boy, even two weeks after the fact. There is definitely something strange going on. Though I’m not sure what good stationing half a dozen cops at the school site and running a helicopter up and down the East River will do. I mean could they even spot the particular person from that high a vantage point?
