Big changes have come to LIC. First, the long-vacant red-brick building on 48th Avenue between 5th Street and Vernon Boulevard lost it’s scaffolding and revealed it’s new facade. In addition to modern windows and a sandblasted exterior, construction has resumed and new floors are being added. 3 1/2 years ago we shared a rumor that this was going to be a hotel with a steakhouse. One new president later and I’m thinking condos.
Secondly, the two-story industrial building on the northwest corner of Vernon and 51st Avenue is getting a blow-out for what appears to be a retail location. With high ceilings and a big footprint, could a restaurant be the ideal tenant for this ground floor location? Sure, it might be nothing too, but when there’s a porta-potty onsite it’s usually an indication that something new is in the air.
//THERE are now three Korean restaurants in LIC. A reader let me know that a blurb I added to a link last week incorrectly stated that the pop-up restaurant Hansik was replacing KSFC in Bricktown Bagels. Instead, Hansik will be operating in addition to KSFC. This long time reader also let me know that he ate at Hansik on Saturday night, and he’ll definitely be going back.
//NOW that we have Halloween, the Marathon, and the Election out of the way, we can finally think about Thanksgiving. For those of you who don’t want to cook the bird and prefer a turnkey solution, M. Wells Steakhouse will host dinner from 2pm onward for a prix fixe feast of turkeys on a spit, meat pies, ducks in pumpkins, and all manner of fixings. That’s pretty good for only $75 per person1. Children under 10 are half price and children under 2 are free. Oh yeah and you did read that right: ducks in pumpkins – those crazy Canucks!
//THERE’S a new pilates studio coming to LIC in the winter of 2017. LIC Pilates will be located on the 2nd floor of 12-17 Jackson Avenue, and will be owned and run by Adrianne Yurgosky who also owns Westside Pilates on the UWS. Both classes and privates will be available.

Queens Library Will Pay $1.5 Million to Settle Lawsuit of ex-President Galante – wait, the library is paying Galante? That’s crazier than Trump winning the election! He “was fired in December 2014 after City Controller Scott Stringer found the CEO was using the library like a personal piggy bank.” A series of articles in the Daily News catalogued that “Galante spent lavishly on food, liquor, entertainment, furnishings for an office roof deck and concert tickets. He also wasn’t above billing the library for parking tickets and electronic books for his Kindle, according to court papers.”
