
Where does Long Island City end and Astoria begin? There is no easy answer to this conundrum, and possibly even no answer whatsoever as the shifting sands of politics, real estate, and tribal pride make it a moving target. Even tangible markers overlap: Astoria Seafood is on 37th Avenue while Long Island City High School is several blocks north on Broadway.
While non-local press take liberties and call a specific location by whatever fits their headline, we prefer to just be territorially expansive and use Broadway as the outer boundary.
Thus we were thrilled to read a very favorable review last week by Pete Wells in The New York Times about a restaurant located right on that border, and will claim it as one of LIC’s own. Even if the Grey Lady declared it’s being in Astoria.
