MEMORIAL Day weekend is here, and it’s going to be a beauty in Long Island City. Now I know what you’re thinking: ‘A 3-day weekend, the perfect occasion to catch-up and re-read all the posts on LICtalk, delve into the issues, leave lengthy comments on the site including links to white papers you’ve written about certain ideas mentioned here, and debate them with both neighbors and strangers at all the local bars and breweries to the point where the bouncer feels the need to separate us you.’
I wish I had some meaty news to share with you, but I don’t. Sure, Mothership Meat Company received it’s first review (come for the brisket, stay for the chili), and some guy at Forbes says the best craft breweries in NYC are in Qns/Bklyn (yawn), but that’s more opinion than news. Here’s something factual, but it’s been out for a week: the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks will not be anywhere near LIC this year (Brooklyn Bridge/Seaport).

A sad memorial was held Saturday afternoon on Borden Avenue at the location where 53-year old bicyclist Robert Spencer was killed Thursday morning. According to the Queens Daily Eagle, many of his family members and friends were in attendance, as were a few local pols and bicycle advocates. A reader has shared the horrible news that a bicyclist was killed in Hunters Point this morning. It apparently occurred around 9am on 2nd Street and Borden Avenue when the rider was hit by a car.
