There’s a new restaurant in Hunters Point that suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Sort of. Like many a start-up, the Crabhouse LIC on Borden Avenue has pivoted and is now called The Loft LIC. The transformation occurred New Years Eve according to an employee who answered the phone today at the restaurant, he also shared that the ownership remains the same: Skinny of Skinny’s Cantina etc. For those unfamiliar with the history, the Crabhouse was only revamped and re-opened in July 2016 after closing down in early 2015 after 3+ decades when the original owner passed away.
Though there is no new website, a reader described the cuisine/menu as Latin and google does too, and per the pic above there seems to have been only some slight changes to the decor. So from this day forward the LIC waterfront will be book-ended by two Latin restaurants, and though many questions remain about the new establishment, I have only one: what does ‘Loft’ mean in Spanish?

January 8, 2018 at 9:17 pmWow. They could say they’re serving haute French or burgers and milkshakes and I wouldn’t go. In 4 decades of restaurant going I’ve never, ever had to have an entire meal comped due to incompetence, bad food, and flat out errors every step of the way.

January 9, 2018 at 11:08 amhave to agree with JK. Went back to the crabhouse after new ownership. Crap service, mediocre food. Maybe they’ll know what they’re doing in the kitchen now. Maybe the servers will understand the food they are serving instead of saying “arctic char is the highest grade of salmon.” No, its not.
