APRIL showers bring May flowers. Oh wait, it’s December! Enjoy it while you can. As I stated earlier in the week, this time of the year the news takes a snooze. Yet due to the mild weather construction keeps charging ahead. Buildings quickly add more floors, and ground continues to be broken.
A nice new facade appeared on 5th Street across from Duane Reade. It’s one of the few residential developments in LIC that’s taken aesthetics into account1. Confirming a belief that potential inhabitants are no longer looking at Long Island City as just a less-expensive alternative to Manhattan, and following in the footsteps of Williamsburg, where some great architecture has been erected in the last decade. For those a little older, there will be viewing parties for major soccer games such as World Cup qualifiers and Champions League matches.
