The way your smile just beams
The way you sing off key
The way you haunt my dreams
No no they can’t take that away from me
FOR most of America, the entertainment highlight of the summer was Top Gun: Maverick. For Long Island City, the entertainment highlight of the summer will occur next Thursday, August 18 when GameHaus LIC opens its doors to the public.
What is Gamehaus? It would be quicker to describe what it is not, but in the words of their own website:
“Gamehaus is an indoor and outdoor venue nestled in the heart of Long Island City, NY. Standing three stories high and spanning over 7,500 sq. ft., Gamehaus is an omni-functional event space that will be operating a sporting bar, beer hall, arcade room, brunch spot, restaurant, and will feature a dedicated area for local bands, retro arcade, trivia nights and table games – perfect for young adults and families.”
In other words all things to all people. Except senior citizens. And middle-aged singles. I jest, but there is also a tapas bar. Mm-mm jamon de bellota.
//CONGESTION pricing is coming to Manhattan, but what does it mean for LIC? While a lot of citywide ink has been spilled in the last 48 hours discussing the recently approved congestion pricing plan for cars entering Midtown, the ramifications are not particularly clear for cars going over the Queensboro Bridge. While the dividing line for getting hit with the $23 peak/$17 off-peak charge is 59th Street, technically any car heading north off the bridge enters Manhattan at 60th Street. Are you exempt? Me thinks not. While no ink has detailed this quirk, and there’s no mention of it in the actual plan, I think congestion pricing fans are equally unhappy about the existence and continuance of all free bridge crossings into Manhattan – except ironically those from the Bronx. Well at least LIC has the best subway access anywhere in the five boroughs to central Manhattan. No, no they can’t take that away from us.
