GAMEHAUS is coming to Long Island City this Fall! What is Gamehaus? An “omni-functional event space that will be operating a:
- Sporting Club
- Live Entertainment Venue
- Beer Hall
- Restaurant
- Retro Arcade & Table Games
Gamehaus will be taking over the former tri-level location of Alewife at 5-14 51st Avenue. A hospitality & lifestyle firm called El Grupo SN headed by two young men named Nathan Leong and Sameer Qureshi is the creator, and their current projects include rooftop hotel bars and unique restaurant and event spaces.
A look at those spaces shows them very tastefully done, and anyone familiar with the Alewife space knows it will take a whole lot of creativity (and probably cash) to make it work. Nevertheless the overall concept seems very promising and a good fit for the LIC community. Something to look forward to when the weather starts turning cool again, a gazillion months from now.
//THE big boys keep putting up their towers. The latest proposal is from Lloyd Goldman’s BLDG to erect a 60+ story tower 42-02 Orchard St. according to The Real Deal. The location is currently a parking lot on Jackson Avenue just south of the tri-tower Jackson Park and has been owned by the Goldman family since the 1970’s. The building will have 818 units, ground level retail, a pool, gym, lounges etc. Yeah, another 60+ stories comin’ at ya, that’s the price for keeping those rents low.

Also, a lot of folks are going to get their views blocked, but so it goes.
