WITH all that is going on in the world today we bring you the headline that a new gourmet market and deli called Luminescence will be opening up on 2nd St. just south of Borden Avenue in a new mega-tower along the waterfront. With a name like that I’d be hesitant to refer to it as a bodega, though these days they both probably sell more units of high alcohol beer in larger container sizes than the 12oz cans I used to swill back in the 20th Century.
Not that I’m unaware that the opening of another food purveyor in the neighborhood is fairly inconsequential relative to the death of a homeless woman in LIC two weeks ago or the heinous attack that occurred last night in an LIC subway station about which you can read below. Nor the horrific crushing of a democracy 2000 miles away. I do wonder though if you’ll be able to get a chopped cheese at Luminescence? Probably not.

April 25, 2022 at 5:06 pmHi,
Thank you for putting our name on the web.
We can’t wait to join the Hunters Point South community.
As far as food options, YES chopped cheese will be on the menu ( beef, Turkey, and vegan chopped cheese)
We plan on offering everything that a normal bodega has to offer and more.
We look forward to opening day.
