‘BIG Time’ is how I would describe the earth-shattering news that Meju, hidden on a quiet street in Long Island City, received the #4 spot in the New York Times ‘100 Best Restaurants in New York City’ for 2026. How big? That’s one notch higher than Jean-Georges. Jean-George!!!
Meju, which opened it’s doors in January of 2023, specializes in Korean Fermentation. More definitively “the intensity of flavor and the health benefits derived from natural fermentation versus industrial fermentation.” It was awarded a Michelin Star in November of 2023, and is helmed by a couple who live right down the street.
Located in the back of Little Banchan Shop on 49th Avenue in Hunters Point (next to Shady Park), it consists of only 9 seats. Last I checked it has one-sitting per night comprised of seven courses. Given the new New York Times ranking, don’t expect to nab a seat before August, but grab one you should!
//DO NOT think that your child scoring a 1500+ on his or her SAT’s and a 4.0+ on their dozen AP classes makes them a shoo-in for Har-ford. They need a story man, a good one at that! And they probably need help crafting that story. And with the supplemental essays that most top schools require. What to do? Get Help! Who/Where?
Answer: Peter Wilson, founder and for 22 years the director of the College and Creativity, Activity, and Service programs at The Baccalaureate School for Global Education. Yes, that Baccalaureate School based right here in Long Island City that frequently ranks at the very top of NYC public schools. Yes, that Baccalaureate School which currently has an Overall A+ grade by Niche, as well as an A+ for College Prep and where LIC parents in the know refer to it as BSGE.
Throughout his time as an advisor and counselor, Peter has developed partnerships with higher educational institutions and community-based organizations, creating a vast educational network of resources. A Columbia University alum, Peter is currently providing private college advisement services for families and institutions, including essay-writing, supplementals, application and scholarship guidance. //IN Har-ford and Meju we’ve discussed the high end. One news story that I’m surprised even made the news involves Queensbridge tenants who have been cooking without gas for weeks. In my 10+ years monitoring them these buildings aren’t getting any better.
