I’m your ice cream man, stop me when I’m passin’ by
They say all my flavors are guaranteed to satisfy
I’m not really sure this was the gig that David Lee Roth was referring to when he sung those lyrics, but judging by this girl’s response she came away satisfied this weekend, and the ice cream man’s presence on Center Boulevard is one of several signs of the return of summer to the LIC waterfront. What else signals to us residents that summer is here? Why the live-music party boats that serenade us at night, and the best thing is they are free and not restricted by the 10pm Gantry Park curfew! Whether your musical tastes run from reggae to samba to classic rock cover bands, pick up a quart of your favorite uhh, soft drink, linger near the water, and the party will come right to you. Or, if you are lucky enough to live on Center Boulevard, just open your window as the river acts as an excellent amplifier with pitch perfect acoustics: it’s almost as if you were there on the dance floor! Also, here’s another LIC summer tip, but just for the ladies: free wave runner rides! That’s right, head down to the Gantry Park waterfront in a bikini any weekend this summer, and in less time than it takes to hail a cab in LIC you will be offered a free tour of the East River…and beyond. Who needs Venice?
OK, let’s get to the LIC news. First of all a reminder: Taste of LIC is next Tuesday, June 5th, get tix and more info here:
While we’re on the topic of food, where is the new dining spot for NYC power broking? LIC if the first article is correct. According to the NY Post, the Mayor broke bread at Testaccio with Anthony Weiner in order to settle some prickly issues the summer before the latter was ousted from Congress. The Mayor seems to really like eating dinner in LIC as yours truly spotted him at Shi last August and has heard first hand about a slightly overserved guest harassing him on a quiet winter night at Tournesol. The takeaway, once again, is that you dear LIC resident, are not just dining amongst the hoi polloi, whether it be for foie gras, sashimi, tagliatelle, …or ice cream.

May 29, 2012 at 6:21 pmI can’t tell if you are being facetious, but those party boats are annoyingly loud to those of us living on the river, especially if you have kids.
