It’s been over three years in the making, but Mothership Meat Company in Long Island City has finally opened! The new BBQ restaurant from Josh Bowen, the founder of John Brown Smokehouse, has been through hell and back over that period which included a soft opening in August 2016 and being “weeks away” in summer 2017. But all that is behind them and BBQ aficionados can now flock to their latest and highly-anticipated shrine, which one can expect to be packed in their limited hours for April: 5pm – midnight on Thursdays thru Sundays. It is located at 27-20 40th Avenue, and there is an outdoor terrace.
//ONE restaurant opens and another closes, it’s a zero sum game. We noticed a “For Rent” sign in the window of Desi Bowl on Vernon Boulevard, which opened about 15 months ago.
//LOOKING for something new to do outdoors this weekend? The Roosevelt Island Cherry Blossom Festival is this Saturday from 11am to 5pm. In addition to all the flora, there will be Japanese Performances and a Cultural Fair. So dig out that kimono, but leave the car at home as the island becomes a parking lot on this day, and take the ferry or bike over.
