OVERFLOW Coffee has opened at 46-36 Vernon Boulevard in Hunters Point. Formerly the home of Matted LIC, there’s a long exposed brick wall, simple clean design, and standard coffeehouse offerings and nibbles. According to a post I saw it bills itself as family-owned, and there doesn’t seem to be any other locations in NYC/ROW.1 We like independents, check it out!
//NEW coffeehouse offerings and nibbles don’t stop there for Hunters Point. Somedays Bakery is coming to 46-30 Center Boulevard in April. This corner space was previously occupied by Soul Cycle and Moge Tee – the latter of which spurred LICtalk to speculate if there was a bubble in bubble tea back in ’21. Should we parlay that bet into shorting pastries? ‘Resoundingly no’ deem the market strategist’s at Goldman, Morgan (both St and JP), and LICtalk. Never short pastries readers.
//BIG affordable housing lottery on the waterfront. Jasper has launched a lottery for affordable apartments. It will include 150 apartments reserved for families making 130 percent of the area median income. Though there is no mention in the press release of a ‘special allocation’ to those already living here as has been the case in past lotteries, just tell them you know The Editor, wink wink, and I’m sure you’ll get special treatment. As we have touted in the past, if you qualify you definitely should go through the hassles of applying for any lottery on the waterfront, especially when they are sizeable. And while you will be getting a handsome discount on your apartment, don’t expect any markdowns on nearby pizza, sushi, or pastries.
//THERE are still tickets available for the next home game for the New York Jets. Which in and of itself is a pretty sad indication of the state of professional football in NYC less than halfway through the season. Though they are priced at $85 for the upper decks, verified resale tickets start as low as $47.2 That game has an 8:15pm start time on Halloween night, which means you are looking at a 2am bedtime back in Queens and no trick or treating.
Or you can sit front row on the 50-yard line to watch a 6-0 home team take on a 5-2 challenger on a beautiful Fall day ten minutes away for free. The Long Island City High School Bulldogs next home game is this Saturday, October 26 at 12pm. Repeat after me: D-O-G-S…
