ANTONY & Cleopatra will take to the stage of Gantry Plaza State Park on Saturday night. If those names sound familiar it’s because not only are they correct answers on some tests I took long ago, but also the name of a play by William Shakespeare.
And this play will take place this Saturday night at 7:30pm on the field in Gantry Park, and then again Sunday at 7:30pm in Socrates Sculpture Park. It’s produced by Hip to Hip Theatre Company and if “What’s past is prologue” then a good time should be had by all in this annual undertaking that I’ve lauded in the past. The price is still free, so bring your blankets, chairs, and whatever else you need on a Saturday night to make you forget it’s an “off” weekend at your summer share in the Hamptons.
//WANT more entertainment this weekend? There’s another play on the other end of the “Twin Parks” taking place Saturday eve. This one’s called “Under Woodside” and describes itself as “a contemporary twist on Dylan Thomas‘ poetic prose style to breathe life into the story of the Sunnyside/Woodside neighborhood of Queens.” It too is free and begins at 7pm at the Kayak Launch in HPSP on the corner of 56th Avenue and 2nd St.
//SUNDAYS are not just for bloody-mary’s and mimosa’s anymore. At least this Sunday anyway, as it’s “Niki St. Phalle Family Day” at MoMA PS1 from 12pm – 4pm. We’ve recommended this exhibit previously for kids, but if you didn’t heed our advice in the past here’s another chance: Join MoMA PS1 and Teen Art Salon on Sunday, August 8 from 12-4 p.m. for the launch of a Family Activity Guide for the exhibition Niki de Saint Phalle: Structures for Life. This free event, happening at the 46th Ave Pop-Up Plaza (in front of the PS1 main entrance), will feature live costumed figure drawing, a colorful board game, and an interactive family guide.
