March Madness is over, so is the Masters, baseball wins and losses are meaningless and I didn’t let a play-in round throw me off my calendar. I so declareth that Spring has Sprung in Long Island City! Stuart Cinema & Cafe, formerly located on the waterfront in Greenpoint, opens April 24th at 37-18 Northern Boulevard. That’s right, a cinema in LIC!?! Dumpling Wang has opened at 42-37 27th Street serving Shanghai cuisine. MoMA PS1 is fifty years old, our local (non-operating) ferry is going down, and Queens residents are still in the dark.
In the dark about what? Sunnyside Yards of course. Why? Because it makes no sense and increasingly looks like a big to-do about nothing. As for Queensbridge, see the two articles at the bottom…
//WE love basketball here at LICTalk, and were thus delighted to read that The Orchard, a new massive rental tower near Queens Plaza, has a deluxe indoor basketball court on premises. AKA as The Arena at The Orchard, it’s affiliated with NBA Skills Trainer Chris Brickley. While some might drool over the state-of-the-art Bose sound system pumping up the volume, true hoopsters would really focus on the “premium Robbins Bio-Channel Star System flooring crafted from solid maple for professional-grade performance, along with Gared Performance Sports Systems hoops and a Nevco scoreboard with integrated shot clocks.” What a world we live in!
//ALSO in LIC greatness: East River CREW has joined with LIC Boathouse as of 2025. Together they offer free kayaking and rowing to residents and visitors of Long Island City. They plan even more community fun on the water in the upcoming summer season!
This Tuesday April 28th, they are hosting a fundraiser party at Culture Lab LIC and invite all to join us at our Spring Launch Friendraiser Party for fun, food and more! Live music will be provided by Astoria natives The TarantinosNYC! Click here for more info.
