HERE we are, six years on and still unable to forget about our past love. Maybe I should write a song, but even if I don’t Valentine’s Day will be inextricably entwined with Amazon’s HQ2 cancellation in Long Island City.
Or the ‘St. Valentine’s Day Massacre of 2019’ as coined by Tom Grech, the head of the Queens Chamber of Commerce. Yet we must move forward, and so I will once again show the way.
Above, is a well-defined aerial photo of most of the proposed Amazon footprint. Upon viewing it, it jolted my desire to champion a more comprehensive plan along the northern waterfront. Especially given the news that the owners of Lake Vernon seem to be coming out of a very long hibernation. I am not sure that the powers that be have made the connection between their DOE Building/Parking Lot RFP’s, and the movement next door. Needless to say, in tandem this would be one whopper of a plot, and allow for so much more than in isolation.
A match has been proposed on this Valentine’s Day. Will it be consummated? Mike Gianaris has been MIA in LIC since V-day 2019, our U.S. Congresswoman is centered in Brooklyn. Thus, Julie Won is in the best position to make it happen. For the sake of Long Island City, hopefully she will recognize this rare opportunity and begin healing the wound inflicted on this town by her predecessor…
EDC looking to the future for LI City – it’s right there in front of you
