There’s something nothing happening here
What it is ain’t exactly clear
In July of last year, we received an email from a reader named Andy G. complaining about the impeded sidewalk caused by the development of 49-18 Vernon Boulevard, and the lack of progress at the site. This address is more popularly recognized as the corner lot across from the subway exit/PJ Leahy’s that must be navigated en route to home after work is finished.
A year later not much has changed. Thus another letter from Mr. G:
Thank you so much for raising this issue. This sight is an offense to all residents and an active health and safety risk to pedestrian due to the pooling of water in the “temporary” walkway that creates messy puddles in spring and ice sheets in the winter. The construction equipment seems to dig only one day every 6 months. This is the major traffic area of the neighborhood. Totally unacceptable!!
Jimmy Van Bramer, can you please look into this issue?
Does anyone know why 50th is also a junk yard for totaled cars? Why are they parked on a street and not an auto pound?
Call the 108th police captain, and good luck getting anyone to give you a satisfactory answer. This has been going on for many years.
When I was a kid, I remember the police leaving totaled vehicles involved in deadly car accidents on the sidewalk over there. One of the cars had blood splatters and hair all over the seat and dashboard. Horrifying.
Agree this is a major eyesore….How do we raise this issue up?
Dan,
I believe you should reach out to borough president Melinda Katz or maybe Suzy Ross who leaves on Center Blvd. She enjoys “clean up” projects.
Call Council member Van Bramer’s district office or contact him here:

Seems like something the community board should discuss
welcome to queens people
better get used to it
lol
You guys are worried about this being as eyesore, what about the derilicks that drink and hang out I the Vernon Mall all day, it’s disgusting!
