TWO months ago I stepped out of my office in midtown shortly before noon to find a long line snaking along the sidewalk at the head of which was a bright red food truck. I asked the last person in line what’s so exciting about this food truck and the only thing I remember of her response was that it would all be sold out in an hour. I then ditched my salad inkling and became the last person in line. When my turn came I opted for the namesake and ordered the 8-piece regular pan-fried dumplings and took them into Bryant Park. Best meal I ate all month, just wish I’d had a cold one to wash it down with.
Fast forward to today, when The Court Square Blog reported that Yumpling will open it’s first ever permanent location by early winter in the storefront formerly housing DesiBowl at 49-11 Vernon Boulevard. Best news I’ve heard all summer, and this time I’ll be sure to be packing a cold one.
//QUALITY over quantity in terms of LIC news this week, on this website anyway. Two interesting stories just put out by city-wide publications in the last 24. The first by the NY Post, exposes the inner workings of the Profundo Day Club, the party on the rooftop pool of the Ravel Hotel. It includes long lines, velvet ropes, bouncers, and a strict dress code, I think:
“They don’t let in guys who wear jewelry, let’s just put it that way — they try to keep the party good-looking,” says promoter Anthony Ramoutar. Other rules posted at the door include a ban on Speedo-type swimwear, construction footwear, baseball caps and socks with sandals.
“You should dress like you’re in Vegas, not like you’re going to your sister-in-law’s pool party,” says Profundo guest Ashley Maria, 28
Whaat, no speedos and no socks with sandals – that was the exact combo I had planned. Anyway the club is a classic, or throwback, or maybe an ‘always was’ here in western Queens .
The second article is this week’s installment of “You Make The Call” in the real estate section of The New York Times. It features the lovely Celine Thum, an EMT doctor who also had her 15 minutes (+one NYT article – I’m still waiting for mine!?!) on a reality show called The Proposal. Anyway she’s still single and chose LIC to buy an apartment – which development did she choose? …see below
