HUNTERS POINT SOUTH PHASE 2 WILL NOW INCLUDE SCHOOL

TF Cornerstone, the developer of Hunters Point South Phase 2, is now going to include a 600-seat elementary school in their project.  According to an article in Crain’s, the change was made due to the complex engineering of an Amtrak tunnel underneath the site.  Whatever the reason, this development should have big ripples in terms of whether or not PS78Q is truncated.  Recent momentum, including a considerable number of applications for the new middle school on Center Boulevard from current PS78 parents, hinted at the strong possibility of this occurring.

Today’s news could be a considerable game changer.  Nevertheless, the article’s parting words were “Construction of TF Cornerstone’s project could be a year or more away.”  This leaves the timeline basically unchanged from the recently announced plans to build a free-standing school at the southern end of Hunters Point South, originally due to be completed in 2020…
