Yes, we gotta no banana, No banana, No banana, I tell you we gotta no banana today
I sella you no banana
Hey, Mary Anna, you gotta… gotta no banana?
Why this man, he’s no believe-a what I say… no… he no believe me…
Yes, we have no picture of the fireworks over the East River either. Yet like the Who’s in Whoville, that did not stop them from coming to Gantry Park in droves last night. They picnicked, they frolicked, and nine months hence there may even be a few new babies in Queens, a la Woodstock. Then, at the appointed hour, they gathered by the river’s edge …and left soon thereafter. File this post under “Amazing but True.”
Before we get to the news, I want to give you a little internet search tip. In my last post my first link was to a story about a lobster roll joint in Greenpoint, easily walkable from LIC. The story appeared in the Wall Street Journal which has firewalls and does not always allow non-subscribers to see the whole story. No problem, if you are interested in a particular story and get blocked, then just type the actual title of the article into Google and you should be able to bypass the restriction and see the whole thing, including pictures.
Not only was there little excitement in LIC last night, as to be expected during this holiday week, there is also a negligible amount of newsworthy information. If you are stuck in town I have included an interesting event going on tomorrow at the bottom of the post. Hopefully we will have some news fireworks come next week.
LIC Chamber of Commerce Update – very interesting Hunters Point library update in the middle of the article
Waste Management’s LIC Facility To Expand
LIC Graffiti Mecca 5Pointz To Be Razed – more detail on a story I told you about last week and in my post of May 3rd
Occupy Wall Street Protests At Citibank Building in LIC – that’s it, this movement has officially jumped the shark

July 5, 2012 at 9:34 pmOf course the developers of 5pointz want to have a “connection to the past” as it will give the residents there a faux patina of artsiness thereby allowing them to get a premium on their rents. There’s nothing altruistic about it whatsoever.

July 6, 2012 at 8:14 amHow much of the library’s $30 million is going to be spent on detoxification, they have been doing that forever? All the private residential buildings were able to dispense with it in a timely manner and start construction. Somebody needs to take the reins on this project!

July 6, 2012 at 11:30 amAgreed on the developers of 5Pointz only desire for keeping a connection to the past being for monetary purposes, and maybe as a salve for what they’re doing. It’s all part of the plan to Disneyfy Manhattan and everything within close proximity of it.

July 6, 2012 at 1:47 pmWow, what a surprise that Arthur Rosenfield is president of the Chamber of Commerce. Not only did he create the chamber’s website, it’s basically self serving as everything directs you to his site, ourlic. Guy is a hack, and I wish people would wise up.
