ELECTIONS 2014: THE PEOPLE OF LONG ISLAND CITY HAVE SPOKEN
Well Election Day has passed, and I expect the results will have minimal impact on your life. Yet a very local vote the week before may hold greater significance in how it affects the people of LIC on a day-by-day basis. This vote was sort of open to everyone, but only about 50 people showed up. I am referring to the participatory budgeting powwow, where citizens nominate neighborhood capital projects to fund.

Tonight’s MoMA PS1’s Halloween party is bringing back from the dead the downtown club scene from the 80’s and 90’s. Looking over the “hosted by” list, I vaguely recognize a lot of the names, many of which have a euro-trashy pronunciation and an avant garde connotation indicating that once the umm, …digestifs kick in, there should be a lot of nudity. Entitled “HalloQueens,” the invite requests “all guests come dressed for a royal celebration of all things Queens” such as Royal Queens, Queens of Mean, Rock Queens, Queen of Hearts. etc. That theme, combined with the fact that it’s only fifteen bucks to attend and within stumbling distance of most readers homes, gets my vote for Best Halloween Party option of 2014.
