We swing from famine to feast in less than a week when it comes to news in LIC. First off, according to the New York Times, Sweetleaf’s newest location will be a combination with the bar Dutch Kills and thus will serve booze and coffee, not necessarily in that order. Then comes a story that some local businesses want to change the name of Long Island City to simply LIC so as not to be confused with Long Island. Think DUMBO or Soho. Next is an article claiming that a second climbing gym is coming to LIC(or is it Long Island City?). It would be great, but in this writers no-nothing opinion, financial suicide. Finally, we share two cultural events coming to umm, err …our town. For those seeking high brow entertainment, an evening of traditional music, dance and story at the New York Irish Center on Jackson Avenue. Not quite on the other end of the spectrum is Lisa Corrao, who “left her lucrative career as a public middle school teacher to travel the country doing stand-up.” She’s cute too, so in order to attract eyeballs to this site, and hopefully attendees at her show next week, here’s a picture of her:
The Intersection of Coffee and Cocktails in Long Island City – great, just what I needed, a combo that is the equivalent of legalized crystal meth
Island Nabe: Call Us LIC – just don’t call us Francis
LOL at the Plan to Officially Change Long Island City’s Name to LIC – for every action, there’s a counter-action
LIC to Become Top Climbing Destination with Two Indoor Facilities Slated to Open in 2013 – hmm, it sounds like the guy at Brooklyn Boulders is reconsidering opening here in LIC
Donie Carroll and Friends at the NY Irish Center – gotta love the requisite cocktail hour before
Lisa Corrao at the Laughing Devil – a picture is worth a thousand words, or 10,000 words on LICtalk
