A frozen East River was how we kicked off 2015 in LIC, only to end it with a balmy December finish. The unusual weather was a direct contrast to a fairly quiet, or at least well telegraphed, news year locally. Now I wish I could recap it all in a brilliantly quippy manner like the annual “Greetings, Friends!” poem in the New Yorker, and I really wish I could tell you that I won’t be able to do that because I don’t have the time to do so, but the reality is I just don’t have the skill set. So where were we before we got so rudely interrupted? Oh yes, nowhere. The news situation in LIC remains static, which given current events and the adage “No news is good news,” is probably for the best.

And by break, I mean there really isn’t any. As in the news is taking a rest, siesta, maybe even a hiatus. Oh sure, I could write about something very mundane or stir up a trivial controversy, but I’ll happily leave that fodder for others who come in from outside the neighborhood and don’t have a handle on what really matters in LIC.
