Today we report on three things that are happening in the neighborhood, and one that isn’t. First off, the MTA voted to sell the air-rights to the developer of the proposed 70-story tower, allowing the building to move forward. Secondly, the LIC Post reports that a Greek restaurant is coming to 50th Avenue, two doors down from the diner on Vernon Boulevard. It will be owned by the folks who brought you Shi and Skinny’s Cantina. Third, [Read more…] about THREE YEA’S AND A NAY TODAY

SLOW NEWS WEEK IN LIC – HERE’S THE BIGGEST STORY
News – little of worthiness in my absence, but explorer and history buffs can rejoice. Lost in the minutiae of what qualifies for news in this small town, is a gem of [Read more…] about SLOW NEWS WEEK IN LIC – HERE’S THE BIGGEST STORY
HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY LICTALK!
Today LICtalk turns three years old. Like most 3-year olds, we’re talking up a storm, but it’s not just nonsense.
Nothing highlights this better than an article by Michael Musto in last week’s New York Times entitled “Are Manhattanites Becoming Brooklyn’s Bridge-and-Tunnel Crowd?” Why? Because two years to the day prior, LICtalk published “There Are No More New Yorkers Living in Manhattan” whose concluding sentence was:

TENANT KING IS NOW AVAILABLE TO ALL IN LIC
I have recently been alerted that the local website Tenant King is now available to all residents of Long Island City. Previously, it had taken a page from Facebook’s early years and been exclusive to the large, fancy, new buildings in the neighborhood. According to one of the founders, who lives in LIC, the previous hindrance was a logistical issue which their 2.0 version has rectified. While we’re on the topic of Tenant King, lately I have been directing everyone that emails me about local events to their Events-Calendar. I still want to receive the information, but unfortunately I am unable to make mention of everything. Tenant King’s forum is more comprehensive and better equipped to do so. Think of it as a community bulletin board. Whereas LICtalk, as you know, is a brilliant compendium of long form journalism on the most important topic: Long Island City.
//Having said the above, sometimes I feel compelled to make mention of a happening that I simply must attend, and would be remiss in not informing y’all of: [Read more…] about TENANT KING IS NOW AVAILABLE TO ALL IN LIC
FEBRUARY BE GONE
One last blast of cold for the final weekend of February. That’s the news. Oh yeah, there’s other real-estate-y stuff like raw land and industrial buildings for sale, and a peek at some tower that might become the tallest in LIC, but I’d rather focus on leisure. And since the 7-train is down this weekend and it feels like Scandinavia [Read more…] about FEBRUARY BE GONE
