The Oval in Hunters Point South is two and a half miles from the Manhattan Bridge, and the shortest distance between Queens and the northern most fireworks barge in this year’s Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks display.  With that in mind, to what extent will those staying in Long Island City for the Fourth actually be able to see the fireworks?  Frankly I haven’t a clue.  So I’ve decided not to gamble, and instead have leased my friend Roman’s yacht to get me and one hundred of my nearest and dearest in the mix, after which we’ll hightail it down to Rio for the World Cup Finals.1  As for those contemplating staying in Long Island City for the show, will it be worth it? New York’s got the ways and means; but just won’t let you be, oh no

No New Yorker would ever think of partying in Times Square.  In the not-too-distant future, I think it will be fair to say that no New Yorker would actually want to live in Manhattan.  It’s where the tourists live.  For the last decade, Brooklyn has been the place to which NY’ers have decamped to in order to 1) get more for their money and 2) retain their hipness.  Recently though, real estate prices in select parts of Brooklyn have eclipsed those in certain areas of Manhattan1.  Moreover, being hip is overrated, especially after one changes their first dozen baby diapers.
