Thinkin’ of a master plan
‘Cuz ain’t nuthin’ but sweat inside my hand
So I dig into my pocket, all my money is spent
So I dig deeper but still comin’ up with lint
NYC officials have been holding talks with property owners and leaders in Long Island City about joining forces and coming up with a master plan for the northern portion of the LIC Waterfront according to Politico via The Real Deal. This acreage includes the two lots that were part of the Amazon deal as well as the 5-acre plot just north coined ‘Lake Vernon.’
While ‘Master Plan’ is my term, I’m happy to have anyone expropriate my ideas as long as they don’t deviate from the plan too much. I am very glad the City has decided to take the reigns and recognize the need to develop these sites as one contiguous property, as it opens up so many more possibilities. Most significantly, it allows the expense of community projects to be amortized over a greater base. Now all they have to do is give greater weight to what the people in the neighborhood want versus what suits the needs of remote politicians.
Details are scant at this point, or maybe they’re just hidden behind a firewall 1, but we’ll keep you updated on what could be the second most important piece of LIC news this year.

Hmmm, pretty sure there was a solid application in place by one very significant bidder.

May 23, 2019 at 1:53 pmWhy again (a) is Amazon a bad company and (b) shouldn’t do business in LIC in the future? Are we going to allow only pro-union companies to come to LIC? Are we not giving out tax incentives? Are we criticizing every company before they come in? JVB is so bad and just caters to what the loudest crowd is concerned about. Total opportunity blown. Still could have kept Amazon in place and worked through the current master plan with them. Makes zero sense still.
