LAST week I received a letter in the mail that my dentist, Dr. Steven Mantinaos, was rolling his independent practice “Into The White Dental” into ProHealth Dental. Previously he worked out of a small storefront on Vernon Boulevard next to the Societa Sant’ Amato Di Nusco. I had only been a patient of Dr. Mantinaos for less than a year, having spent close to a decade with Dr. Dan (Weinstein) at his previously-independent practice Hunters Point Dental – before it too was rolled into ProHealth.
Though it was only twice a year for a regular cleaning, I really preferred supporting a local independent who was part of the community. In addition, I’m somewhat leery of what all this consolidation will mean in the long run. So I’m looking for recommendations for dentist number three in the neighborhood. In the meantime, there’s another vacancy on Vernon Boulevard.
//A new eye-wear store is coming to Hunters Point. Dussan Eyecare will be moving into the former Sugarcube space on 10-16 50th Avenue just east of Vernon Blvd. Not to be confused with the eyewear shop on the western side of Vernon.

November 27, 2019 at 10:37 amI have been very satisfied with the service and lack of nickle-and-diming w/ Dr David Chen at Jackson Ave Dental. I was previously visiting LIC Dental Associates and felt that I often was receiving treatment/procedures beyond what was necessary for what was admittedly fairly extensive work. Dr. Chen took care of what I needed efficiently and without pushing toward more expensive and longer work.
