ACCORDING to a credible source, a McDonald’s Cafe is coming to 49-10 Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City. Previously the home of ‘Something Sweet,’1 the Grand Opening is scheduled for November 1.
A McDonald’s Cafe, or McCafe, is a mashup of a traditional McDonalds and a Starbucks. So instead of ordering a burger, fries, and shake, you can substitute the latter with an Iced Caramel Macchiato, thereby getting a jolt of caffeine with your sugar rush. But you can still get that shake at the McCafe, and I think you can Supersize it too.
What you won’t get is Ronald McDonald, given that Willard Scott, the very first Ronald, passed away this week. Not to mention McDonald’s phasing out all of their cartoon characters around 2003. Man I feel bad for Gen Z, they had to swap Hamburglar and Grimace for coffee drinks.
McCafe Menu – you can get anything that you want, at McD’s restaurant
Willard Scott, Today Weather Forecaster And First Ronald McDonald Has Died – the clown is no longer around

Will they have fries???!
Welcome to Long Island City…
Can’t wait November 1…
I thought this landlord wanted to get a tenant that was a “mom and pop”. McDonalds!? Really?
They were a mom and pop shop back in the day- such a shame to rent to this establishment that brings nothing to the neighborhood.
There goes the neighborhood…..oh wait, already gone!
I give this Landlord credit for going against the establishment and bringing in low cost affordable food. There is already a Dunkin Donuts on that block, and now a McDonalds. With 4 schools and all that foot traffic, this is a homerun !!!
Who needs more overpriced Fancy,Smancy Restaurants when the average studio Apt here is $2,800 and $400 to park your car. OH,wait, I forget it also cost $100 a month to own a pet.
Hopefully this is just the start of more low cost affordable food coming to Vernon Blvd and I’m sure this place will be open on Monday’s and Tuesday’s when 80% of the local restaurants are closed because they can’t make money .
Wake up people, There are too many fancy restaurants in the neighborhood and they are all killing each other and loosing business because people around here just cant afford to pay those high prices!
There is nothing in this neighborhood, you can’t buy a tie,a dress shirt, shoes, sneakers, bra, underwear, golf balls, etc. This is the most backward neighborhood I have ever lived in. And do you know why ?
Because they don’t want anyone to grow old in L.I.C. and retire here, Realtors and Builders want constant flow and turning over of Apt’s, a steady stream of young people that will pay there inflated prices.
You see, the average 70 year old can’t afford $15 for a Hamburger,$3 for a cup of coffee,or $12 for an egg omelette. And nobody over 60 years old should be forced out of living in L.I.C. because they can’t afford to live in a place that they call HOME all their life.
You do know…there are other neighborhoods you could live in where you can buy a tie, a dress shirt, shoes, sneakers, bra, underwear and golf balls”…right?
Wow ! I always thought that location would be best for a Funeral Home. Directly across the street from St. Mary’s. I know the operator of Starbucks ( my friend ) at 21-02 49th Avenue in the Paragon Building was in negotiations for that location.
I know the talks broke down in the end of the 1st week of April as the owner would not budge on price or concessions plus he wanted a 5% stake in the business. My friend offered 3% but that was not good enough and the talks died ( no pun intended ).
Either way, Vernon Blvd is definitely changing for the better and that place rented FAST, VERY FAST! most likely because the owner handled the deal and did not use a Real Estate Broker and was able to negotiate in real time, on the spot and not waste time.
I still would have liked to see my friend’s Starbucks there, but with Dunkin on the block, I guess McDonald’s Cafe is a better choice.
Here’s to a better Long Island City, who cares if you can buy a bra or golf balls !
