THERE I was, deep in the Hindu Kush, when the fragrance of roasting lamb wafted over the valley where we were bivouacing. That valley was Vernon Boulevard, or soon will be, when Sami’s Kabab House arrives. Sami’s specializes in Afghan cuisine, and currently has a restaurant north of the bridge on Crescent Street in an area I refer to as Long Island City but The New York Times says is Astoria – you decide who’s right.
Anyway, Sami’s is bringing their delights into the thick of LIC and taking over the small space at 47-38 Vernon Boulevard, formerly (and very briefly) the home of Four Winters Ice Cream1. According to the owners son they hope to open in about three months.
So many changes on Vernon these days, two ice cream shops no mas, but a new bakery and Afghani, stay tuned to LICtalk for what’s coming next…
Sami’s Kabab House – dreams of the kush!
Illegal Parking Still Rampant at 108th Precinct in LIC – hmm
9-09 43rd Ave Townhouse – cool LIC home highlighted in this week’s NYT, but think the actual listing better
New Renderings of Astor LIC – 143 rental units about to start leasing near Food Bazaar – yeah, that’s still LIC, I think
$155 Million Loan Approved To Redevelop Fresh Direct Site on Borden – 5 stories of last-mile warehouse space
- And for those of us who’ve been here awhile fka fka as the restaurant El Ay Si [↩]
Is this still opening?
