OH gosh, so much big news this week already, which is why I will now go back in time (a few weeks), to get everyone caught up on slightly less recent developments.
Remember our ‘sensible legislation’ post from late last year? Action has been taken, as last week the City Council passed legislation that would reduce the frequency of Local Law 11 facade inspections. Before getting too excited, the devil is still in the details, as the 5-year period has been extended to 6-12 years depending. Whether it’s 6 or 12 is still tbd by powers beyond our control, but is obviously a huge difference, with the former number largely negating legislation altogether. Stay tuned…
//REMEMBER that ‘most expensive and highest’ rental in Queens we discussed two months ago? While we envisioned four ‘bros’ snapping it up and turning it into a naughty party palace, it ended up being taken by a married couple. Oh the stories that won’t be told.
//A new play has arrived in LIC. Theatre East, the theater company out of Long Island City’s Court Square Theater is currently producing the world premiere of ‘Canaan Unremembered,’ which just began performances and will run through April 19th. The play is written and directed by Sunnyside resident Judson Jones who also happens to be a co-founder of Theatre East.
The play, which again, is making its world premiere in good ole Queens, had a workshop at Powerhouse Theater at Vassar College, the very same place that shows such as Hamilton and Doubt, among others had developments before their stints on Broadway and beyond. You can say you remember it when!
//ONE last item and then you’ll be all caught up on things LIC: Chairman Sun on Vernon Boulevard in Hunters Point has closed.
NYC Reforms Sidewalk Sheds – kinda
Here’s who rented the tallest — and priciest — home in Queens – no bros, no ballplayers, just a married couple

NYC hidden dining gems: Takumen the perfect ramen spot to enjoy ‘fake spring’ – ramen and a whole lot more
City plans to create waterfront greenway connecting Long Island City to Bayside
I walked by Chairman Sun (47-30 Vernon Blvd, LIC, NY 11101) at 8pm tonight (Thursday, April 17th) and they are very much OPEN and in business still.
