THERE I was on a beach in Bodrum, soaring over the net and about to spike it down onto Karch Kiraly, when the following thought entered my head ‘Should I have the doner kebap or manti for dinner tonight?’ Mm-mm doner kebap.
I quickly recovered my senses, successfully rammed home the spike, served out the match to win the championship, bid adieu to the crowd and walked off with my trophy into the setting sun over the Aegean followed by a flock of bikini-clad SAS stewardesses who seem to be present whenever I’m out in public.
For dinner I ended up going with a freshly grilled branzino and a half bottle of raki, before catching a midnight charter to Sydney for the next tournament.
You too will be able to live this life, when beach volleyball and Turkish cuisine come to LIC in the not-too-distant future. The Turkish restaurant will be called ‘Silk Road’ and is going into the space on Vernon Boulevard where ‘Antioch’ was previously announced to be arriving. Meanwhile an indoor beach volleyball venue is slated for 41-20 39th Street. Hoş geldiniz!
