
SONNY Rollins, a highly acclaimed jazz saxophonist, passed away this week at the age of 95. I had the good fortune to catch him live at Summerstage back in 2002. Though I was unfamiliar with his music, I’m always up for listening to new sounds, and I knew that he had played with The Rolling Stones. Sealing the deal: it was a free show. So a friend and I made our way up from the East Village and settled in on a standing room patch about 50′ feet left of stage left.
