MAN, I was quite miffed not to have broken the story about Xi’an Famous Foods opening downstream on the Jackson River in Hunters Point. A reader tipped me off a few months ago at which time the official flag of Xi-an hanging from the abandoned 12-15 Jackson Ave was not visible due to the wind wrapping it around the pole, giving me a false sense of security in terms of when I could break the news. THE New York Times has declared Long Island City is now ‘Little Asia,’ or maybe it’s ‘Asiatown?’ Well they didn’t really declare it, but they might as well have given a prominent story they published this week noting the exploding Asian population in LIC.
You can read it if you want, but given the article’s strong focus on all the new Asian eateries that have popped up recently in the neighborhood it should come as no surprise to readers of LICtalk. Every third week it seems we break the story of a new Asian food-related business opening locally, and have noted the regional trend in cuisine. You could say we pointed the way!
