SO we did a little digging to find out more about Jungly, the restaurant going into the former Bierocracy space. Here is what we discovered.
It is the latest project for Rohan Aggarwal, the restaurateur behind Queens Bully in Forest Hills. Given the description we gave about a month ago: a casual bar/lounge serving global food, and the size/type of space Jungly is going into, it sounds like the LIC location will have a lot in common with the the one in Forest Hills.
Queens Bully is a gastro-pub/bbq joint that showcases the diverse and bold flavors of Queens. The menu is vast and in addition to BBQ includes comfort foods such as chicken & waffles, fish & chips, tandoori spiced lamb chops, salads, about eight different types of sandwiches from burgers to smoked jackfruit and everything in between, as well as ten different types of chicken wings. The restaurant also holds Taco Tuesdays and brunch on Saturday & Sunday. Global for sure.
As for Rohan, he was born and raised in Queens, and spent time working in his father’s restaurant endeavours, which included the Baluchi’s chain of Indian restaurants begun in NYC in the early 90’s, and the upscale and now-closed Devi restaurant near Union Square. Frank Bruni of the NYT gave the latter two stars back in 2004, and I can vouch that the lamb chops were awesome.
A peek inside Jungly shows the decor more lounge-like than the locations previous iteration, as the long beer hall tables have been removed and the bar is no longer in the center. By the look of things my over/under for opening is week one of the NFL season, that’s all we have on Jungly for now.
//LUPO Rosso Pizzeria and Rang have opened. The latter is an Indian restaurant and the former is a, …well you know, but they are both located in the warehouse district which we highlighted in June.
