So let’s sink another drink
‘Cause it’ll give me time to think
If I had the chance
I’d ask the world to dance
And I’ll be dancing with myself
NOW we shift from the festivity of Halloween to the drama and solemnity of Election Day. Of course there isn’t really any drama as by and large the relevant races are a foregone conclusion. Out of the spotlight but of possibly greater consequence is the once-in-every-twenty-years vote over whether to hold a Constitutional Convention in New York State, on which I have no opinion. Yet if one were to allow their imaginations and machinations to run wild…
Actually there is a vote on an item, or line-item as it were, that will have ahem …dire? consequences for a select segment of the Long Island City population [Read more…] about ELECTION DAY: THE BIG VOTE IN LIC

Don’t let the fabulous October weather play a trick on you, Halloween is upon us. Yet this year in LIC there will be a little twist for the youngsters and their parents, or maybe more of a mash-up of the monster-kind. That’s because the Annual LIC Halloween Parade has merged with the PS78Q PTA Fall Festival ((Morgan Stanley and Allen & Co. represented the Parade while Goldman Sachs and Moelis & Co. advised the PTA)) to create a mammoth one-day extravaganza! RECENTLY I was sent a trio of photos of dead birds on the sidewalks near Center Boulevard, one of which is shown above. The sender was inquiring if I knew of, or why, the sudden surge in dead birds? While I wasn’t aware of it, I did know where to go: D-Bird.org, a database kept by the NYC Audubon in order to assist them in Project Safe Flight, which helps birds migrate safely through New York City.
After entering the three photos and location information, I followed up with an email and call to Kaitlyn Parkins, a conservation biologist at NYC Audubon. She told me [Read more…] about DEAD BIRDS AND LIVE JELLYFISH IN LONG ISLAND CITY

Well maybe, but that’s not the real story. Instead, the LIC Post is reporting that a complete redesign of Hunters Point South’s Parcel C was unveiled last night at a Community Board 2 Land Use meeting. Most significantly, the towers will now rise to 55 and 44 stories from a previous 41 and 35 stories in the original plan shared in 2013. The other significant design change from that plan, is that the structure will no longer run uninterrupted along Center Boulevard, which effectively made it one mammoth building with two peaks. Instead it will be broken up with a Center Boulevard (and Oval and Manhattan) facing open area filled with greenery, art installations, and a food pavilion. It’s in that pavilion that one of the presenters last night threw out the name Shake Shack [Read more…] about SHAKE SHACK COMING TO HUNTERS POINT SOUTH?
