TWO months ago I stepped out of my office in midtown shortly before noon to find a long line snaking along the sidewalk at the head of which was a bright red food truck. I asked the last person in line what’s so exciting about this food truck and the only thing I remember of her response was that it would all be sold out in an hour. I then ditched my salad inkling and became the last person in line. When my turn came I opted for the namesake and ordered the 8-piece regular pan-fried dumplings and took them into Bryant Park. Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, London, LA, Long Island City – an incongruous lot to say the least, what do they all have in common? As of today they all have a ‘Four Winters Ice Cream’ location. Paris, Tokyo, Manhattan, and ahem Brooklyn do not. The newest branch opened at 47-38 Vernon Boulevard today and by 5pm had to close for a 30-minute regrouping due to the crowds according to a manager on location.
According to a recent article in Eater Los Angeles:
The company made its name by making custom order ice cream from -196 degree liquid nitrogen, where fresh ingredients are flash frozen into a liquid base. The flavors plans are simple: Four Winters uses the seasons of the year for inspiration.
Now all I need to do is decide between Knafeh and Brown Sugar Speculoos.

EARLY last week came news that Amazon was looking to lease a one million square foot space in Brooklyn for a logistics center/warehouse. Then on Thursday the WSJ reported that Amazon was also kicking the tires at the former Lord & Taylor flagship store on Fifth Avenue for NYC office workers. Finally this Monday came news that they were also considering a newly cleared lot in Maspeth for the logistics center. What these potentially different-use buildings have in common is they are all not going to be in LIC.
