BLACK Star Bakery will be opening a new cafe in the former home of Dorian’s Cafe at 10-01 50th Avenue on Vernon Boulevard. This marquee location has been empty since December when Dorian’s suddenly shuttered.
According to the owners, Dan and Odehele Magor, the newest Black Star, which will be its fifth in NYC, will be considerably more expansive than previous iterations. In addition to its current items, the menu will feature mediterranean cuisine, more substantive brunch and kid-friendly options, and a juice bar. Though it won’t be standard sit-down service, they expect to have some front of the house staff helping patrons and shuttling dishes from the kitchen. Finally the new cafe will stay open later than their current location, which they are keeping, and they hope to open in early winter.
On a personal basis, Dan and Odehele have lived in Hunters Point for five years where they have been raising their young son, and are thrilled to have secured this prime location in order to bring a new and exciting menu to our neighborhood.

September 22, 2020 at 8:12 amGlad to read that a business is taking this corner over so quickly. Wouldn’t want it to remain an eyesore like the lot directly across the street.

March 11, 2021 at 10:07 amAt least someone was smart enough to see the potential of that space.
When Dorian was in its hay days ( 80s and prior ) you could not get a table or space at the counter for lunch . Basic and good .Well i guess they need to cater to the neighborhood .
They got a glorious business location now lets cross our fingers that make the best of it and they are a permanent fixture of LIC .
glad to see that LIC has not lost its glamour.
