CALL it a consolation prize for not getting Amazon, but come July 2nd the Plaxall Gallery will turn into The Louvre for eight weeks as the latter lends its piece de resistance ‘The Mona Lisa’ to New York City according to Jean-Luc Martinez, the Louvre’s director. Or maybe Fort Knox is a better analogy as the famed painting will be coming with a major security detail that will shut down the not-so-major streets surrounding the gallery. How did this extraordinary once-in-a-lifetime event come about and land in Long Island City’s lap? Quite simply, the pandemic!

Lofts, Lotteries, and Niki de Saint Phalle in LIC!
A lot of tidbits but not a lot of meat for you today – that was earlier in the week. The 5Pointz affordable housing lottery for 337 apartments is now open. Yeah you could snag a brand new 3-bdrm in a luxury tower with lots of amenities like an indoor pool and basketball court for $3,200 a month, but given the reduction in local market rate pricing I’m not sure it’s much of a discount, even if it is stabilized going forward. And the surrounding neighborhood is only so-so due to the lack of nearby parks. My advice to eligible applicants would be to hold out for TF Cornerstone’s newest tower on Center Boulevard. It should be announced any day month now and the location right on the park as well as within un-trafficked walking distance of multiple schools is as prime as it comes.
Live Comedy In Murray Park On Weekends
THIS weekend and every weekend the weather is amenable there will be live comedy shows at the mini-amphitheater in the eastern end of Murray Park in Long Island City. The performances are free and slated to start at 6pm on both Saturdays and Sundays, but follow the instagram account @2Small2FailComedy for confirmation and the lineup for each evening.

SHAKESPEARE’S ‘Troilus & Cressida’ will be performed this Saturday at the Hunters Point Library. The starting time is 2pm, the price is free, and best of all it is a production of the Hip to Hip Theatre Company. Other than that I know nothing about this play, surprise me!
