DANCING WITH THE STARS COMING TO LIC

PULL that white 3-piece suit out from the back of the closet because Dancing With The Stars is coming to LIC on Friday, November 2. It will take place at the Plaxall Gallery between 6-9pm and feature local residents competing in a fundraiser for the Floating Hospital and the Queensboro Dance Festival. The glitz, glamour, and glory are sure to make this contest resemble Dirty Dancing and Footloose and not They Shoot Horses Don’t They. Tickets include open bar and a buffet by Woodbines & M. THE TIDE IS HIGH IN LONG ISLAND CITY

Just a chooglin’ on down to New Orleans

IT wasn’t the wind and rain that made Hurricane Sandy so destructive to LIC and NYC, but the unusual surge of the coastal waters, which in our case meant the East River. In a small redux, we got a taste of that yesterday around 11am in Gantry Park per the photo above. Unlike Sandy, this flooding occurred when the moon phase was not full, which traditionally causes higher tides. Not to be alarmist, but you may want to get the rafts ready, or at least the skim boards.

YES, yes yes, the MoMa PS1 Warm-Up Schedule and ManhattanHenge dates were publicized this week. While the substance of these two announcements might be considered news on their own, what they really herald is the arrival of summer. Which coming ahead of the long Memorial Day weekend is apropos.
